Watching the UN Summit, guest speaker on CCX

By Anthony Baratta, Ohio, USA

“What are we doing at class today? Where are we meeting?” Both of these questions are common and fair in the UNIV 290 course. From 7:00-8:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the topics and class format vary. To name a few, we have listened to a lecture by Professor John Caraher on the science of climate change, held a planning session for a climate change conference for high schoolers, and talked to Professor O’Bannon about his upcoming talk for The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and their preparation for Copenhagen.

Thursday’s class (9/26) offered more variety. The first hour was spent watching the webcast of the UN special summit on global warming (see earlier blog posts for analysis).

After, Mr. Gerard Pannekoek, one of the founders of the Chicago Climate Exchange, came and explained how the cap and trade program of the Chicago Climate Exchange worked in practice.

An interview with Jay Wellick on his opinion of the talk is available on DEPPmedia’s YouTube channel.
